The Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District has been working to protect the natural resources of Washington County for over 47 years.  The District is situated in the fertile lower Willamette Basin.  The western portion of the District is a patchwork quilt of farmland, producing a variety of crops including hazelnuts, berries, and hay.  The eastern portion is a growing urban area full of culture and charm that attracts many visitors and residents.  In order to conserve, protect, and enhance natural resources in the Tualatin Basin, the mission of the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District is to: Assess watershed conditions, identify resource concerns, and select strategies that meet water quality goals; Provide technical assistance to help private landowners install conservation practices; Increase the public’s knowledge of natural resource issues and solutions; and deliver conservation services, often in collaboration with partners.

The State of Oregon has a Citizen Legislature consisting of the Senate, whose 30 members are elected to serve four-year terms, and the House of Representatives, which has 60 members elected for two-year terms. The assembly convenes every two years in regular session on the second Monday in January during odd-numbered years, a date set by statute. Oregon Constitution does not specify a limitation on session length, however most sessions last approximately six months. During the interim, legislators serve on interim committees and task forces that study issues likely to be faced during the next legislative session.
