Tualatin River Watershed Council Provides Small Grant to Tualatin
River Forest Conservation Project
The Tualatin River Watershed Council awarded a $1900 grant to Ash Creek
Forest Management, LLC, to assist in an ongoing 52 acre reforestation
project being funding by private landowners and the Forest Resources
Trust. The project lies on steep slopes overlooking the Tualatin River,
approximately three-quarters of a mile upstream of the confluence of
the Tualatin and Willamette rivers. Reforestation of this project will
help prevent erosion and surface water run-off, reduce invasive plant
species capture, restore native habitats, and provide critical stream
shade on the lower Tualatin River for salmonid and other fish species.
The monies were used for purchase of additional tree planting stock.
The Council received a $1000 gift from the estate of Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds,
a professor of biology at Linfield College until her
retirement. Professor Dirks-Edmunds requested that her estate was bequeathed
to local organizations that are helping Oregon restore the ecological
conditions that characterize Douglas fir forests that she deeply cared
about. The Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board also provided a special
grant of $1000 to match the $1000 gift.
